I have finally laid my hands on MPH on Tuesday's night. Shall give some thoughts on this game after some time of playing. Take note though, I have not really played this game for long, so any comments made now are subjectable to changes in the future when more quality time are allocated to this game.
First thing first, I must say the controls for the game is really fresh. It was partly because of this control system where you control with the stylus such that I find it interesting enough for me to spend some money on it. It sure shares some resemblance to the WASD/mouse combination of PC, but it does takes time to get use to. Afterwhich, I shall rock muahaha.
The storyline seems acceptable enough such that I would love to see how the story unfold. What the octoliths and such. Pretty cool. The idea of introducing other bounty-hunters besides Samus herself to compete for the octoliths is a nice idea too.
Graphic-wise, I think the effect of playing, watching too much games with fantastic gfx have really taken its toll on me. That is not to say the graphic in MPH is substandard. Maybe I put it this way, the graphic didn't really wow me. Although I won't make a big fuss for this since I didn't anticipated much in this area. A bit maybe, but not to the extent where the graphics would have determined whether I would buy this game or not.
I will reserve my thoughts on the sound department since I have not been paying much attention to the game sounds while I was playing these few days. Then also, more or lesser "oomps" would not have make a hell lots of a difference for me considering its just a portable device. Frankly speaking, I wouldn't hestitate to volume down/turn off the sound if needed to. But so far, the sounds didn't suck and sound awful.
Now for the wifi feature whereby you competes with players all over the world. Very nice I would say. Sure, I didn't like the feeling where you can't just connect to the net and find anyone to battle with all options available(battle modes, etc), but I guess I can live with that. They make it such that only with another player's so-call friendcode(The rival thing I am still not completely sures of how it works) can you play and chat with them without restrictions. Maybe I should commend on the developers' effort too for trying hard not to allow unwanted situations from happening(Now tell me, how many times have you been cursed or well, have cursed while ingame, in an online game?). Though I still feel that a complete and unrestricted internet experience would have been great. However, like I say, I can live with that. The wifi features also spur me on to train in the game to compete with players all over world. Just imagine getting pro in the game and starts owning everyone making everyone fear of and heard of your name. But as of today, I have only played one online game, and got owned pretty badly, but just some time is all I needed.
That's about it for my early thoughts on the game.
